Lead Mentor

Job Description:
Lead mentor will act as role model of successful adulthood, facilitate student access to resources, and perform a wide variety of administrative and maintenance tasks. They must have experience working with children ages 5-18 professionally. If the applicant has a background as an educator, they must be prepared to discuss how and why they have divested from traditional educational philosophies. 
 
This person will be a creative and imaginative thinker who can be counted on to be reliable, respectful, responsible and punctual. They will model appropriate adult behaviors and boundaries at all times. They will be safety-conscious and show a high degree of self-management skills. They will be committed to maintaining and promoting a space for a variety of voices and have an ability to work with a neurodiverse population. They must be able to thrive in an environment with frequent distractions and interruptions, and work well both independently and as a part of a diverse team.
 
This person will help ensure that the school lives up to its goals:
  • Provide an environment that allows students to feel safe and loved
  • Create life-long lovers of learning
  • Inspire children to follow their passions and dreams
  • Promote personal responsibility and integrity
  • Develop meaningful relationships between students, mentors, and the community
  • Demonstrate an appreciation for the gifts, talents, and abilities of each student
  • Encourage community service, entrepreneurialism, and a commitment to social justice. 
 
Duties:
Lead Mentor duties will include student instruction and assistance, as requested; participation in the democratic structures of the school; staff and volunteer management; parent support; maintaining classrooms in an organized and visually appealing fashion; and upholding the Sudbury model of education. A person accepting this  position is agreeing to show a high level of initiative, even when work must occur during non-scheduled hours (e.g., evenings, weekends, holidays/breaks). 
 
Compensation:
20 hours per week/ $20 per hour to begin. This role will slowly transition into a full-time position as enrollment allows. FWSS is closed eight weeks of the year for breaks. This time plus occasional closure for bank holidays/ weather related events will be unpaid.
